22 - 2000 May be you might see me in Hospital

- May be you might see me in Hospital- 2000

It was Wednesday the 12th of April 2000 and I drove Mithu to the sydney International Airport as she was going to Tokyo on Dupont Business as she was Manager Asia pacific for Dupont University.

She was travelling every month so it became a ritual for me to drop her and tell her to be careful about her blood sugars at night her being an insulin dependent Type 1 Diabetic. I was always worried about her having a massive Hypo in her sleep. and not waking up and going into a Coma.

But this trip was different. I got down from the car, opened the tailgate and removed her luggage and put them in a trolley for her and instead of my regular sermon something made me say: " Jupps I dont feel well at all. Don't know what is wrong. Don't be surprised to see me in Hospital when you return".

Boy it was a BIG mistake as I really really upset her and got told off for talking crap..

I gave her a hug shrugged my shoulders and got into the car and drove back to work.

I came home cooked a large pot of of fish curry and rice, delivered half to my sisters living down the road, came back home had dinner and watched Australia Play South Africa in the world cup semifinals which started at 10.00pm Sydney Time.

Watched the game until Midnight with Babu and at Midnight I decided to go to bed upstairs. babu said he wanted to watch a bit more and then go to sleep.

I was very restless and could not sleep. about 1.00am  I came down stairs. Anan d was asleep on the sofa with the TV still blaring. I stopped and checked the score and then turned the TV off. went to the Kitchen and got myself a glass of cold water. Went back to the TV Room woke Babu up and sent him to his be upstairs and went to bed myself and fell asleep.

I woke up about 4.30am with a dry mouth feeling yukky. My nose was itchy and I tried to use my right hand to scratch the nose. Something was not right. I could move my right hand but I was not able to control it. Mithu was not there next to me. She was still on the plane to Tokya. My next move was to get out of bed and then I realised My left leg would not budge. It was like a tree stump. I could not even wiggle my toes in my left foot. the right foot and leg was perfectly Ok.

I was alert when I woke up but was slowly fading. Something Told me I had to act fast.

One of my pet hates is to have a phone on my side of the bed. I dreaded early morning calls which were always about someone passing away. The Phone was on Mithuis bedside table

I somehow managed to Roll over and grab the phone with my left hand as the right hand was useless by then.

I phoned 000. The angel at the other end of the Phone said. Sir your speech is slurred. Think you ae having a stroke. so please don't strain yourself talking. Just say Yes or no to my questions. She rattled off my land line number, my name and address and said the ambulance will be there in five minutes and to get some one to open the main door. I mumbled I cannot wake my teenage son up and both our bedroom doors are closed plus we have a steel security door. next thing she said was the ambulance Police and the fire brigade will be there and they will decide what needs to be done to get you to hospital.

I was not done yet. I remembered my sister had a set of my house keys so I dialled her number and my Brotherinlaw arrived at the same time as the emergency services. Fortunately they did not have to break open the door. Poor Anand had no clue until my BIL woke him up and told him Dad was ill.

The paramedic tried to stand me up and I threw up like I have never before done in my life. They bought he stretcher upstairs but it was not of any use. So paramedic police and fire crew decided to list me using the bed spread and carried me down the winding staircase on to the stretcher and into the ambulance. They gave me maxalon injections to stop the nausea and the angels my paramedics kept telling me to stay awake and not fall asleep. I could see the dark night sky turning blue as the sun was rising and It was the longest drive of my life to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

My family informed Mithus work colleagues who informed the Dupont Tokyo staff as well as the Airlines and as soon as she landed she was put on the next flight back to come back and see me in Hospital as I had predicted.

I do not blame Mithu as she is scared of me and my dreams and premonitions etc.

The truth is I myself have no clue about any of these
